Ashram - Levi Love

Ashram, is where you hear a complete Eurocentric interpretation of Levi’s musical ideas; it is for the electronic measured, perfect for warm-up and home consumption. The unusually haunting synth follows a carefully constructed melody, which is in fact taken from a struggle song, ‘Asinamali’, that he sung with his father as a child. The bassline reveals the baritone layer of the song by using long notes to create a comfortable padding. The irony here is unmistakable, turning a struggle song against apartheid and Western ills by using distinctly Western elements and tools. A musical oxymoron perhaps.Matty's room ft Daddy Molete, on side B stems from an afterparty which took place 7 years ago, during which he contacted a very talented vocalist Daddy Molete to narrate that night, in retrospect. It has taken all these years to find an instrumental that did justice to the vocal; in the process converting the whole piece into a New York dub-infused Afro House track, if there ever was such a thing.
